Seed Starting Mix
Want to make your own organic seed starting mix. Here’s how we make ours. Doing this saves us money each year. It only takes a few ingredients to make and will make much more than if you spent the same amount of money on already prepared organic seed starting mix.
Ingredients:
How to Prepare:
1) Make a 3 to 1 (3:1) part mix of peat moss and vermiculite. Use whatever cup or scoop you'd like. Scoop 3 times of peat moss and 1 time of vermiculite.
2) Mix it all together. I like to put them in Craftsman storage buckets. They're easy for me to store throughout the year and carry around using the handle.
After it’s made, we pour the mix into seed starter trays, add seeds and put those starter trays into heavy duty trays. Nothings worse than preparing starter trays, moving them and the trays falling apart. It’s worth the investment to get heavy duty trays. Believe me... you’ll use them for more than just seed starting on the farm.
Once the plants are big enough, we transplant them into 4 inch pots, harden them off and plant them in the ground when the weather is right.
