Dishwasher Detergent
There are so many recipes for dishwasher detergent. But this is the one we like and use on a daily basis. Not a day goes by that we don’t run our dishwasher. Finding a good, reliable, non-toxic dish detergent is important to us!
Ingredients
1 cup baking soda
1 cup washing soda
1 cup kosher salt
3/4 cup lemon juice (I use fresh squeezed) or citric acid
OR
Directions
Mix all the ingredients together.
If you’d like to make tablets then press mixture firmly into your ice trays. I normally do a heaping tablespoon. Then let the tablets sit out over night to dry. Once dry, carefully take them out of the trays and put into containers. I put mine in half gallon mason jars.
If you don’t want to go through the hassle of making tablets or would rather have a powder substance, then pour the mixture onto a sheet pan. DO NOT PRESS. Just spread it out on a pan and allow to dry. Once dry, put into a Ziploc bag and squeeze mixture to press the clumps out. If I go this route, I keep it in a Ziploc bag to allow me to fluff the mixture by squeezing the bag whenever I think it needs to be done. I’ve tried putting into a glass jar and it becomes rock solid at the bottom from constantly scooping out and accidentally pressing down in the process.
Note: I always run out of things at the most inconvenient times. I don’t want to plan at the last second to get lemons, juice them, and then make this detergent. To save on time and my sanity, I juice a ton of lemons at once, measure out 3/4 cup increments and freeze them. When I see I’m running low, I’ll pull one out the day before to thaw in the fridge.
